Vertical Blinds

Fabrics are available in widely differing levels of sun block. From "Black Out" which stops all light, to sheer transparent fabrics. Materials should be held up to the light while choosing. Colours and patterns to personal taste.

Blinds are intended to cover the glass not necessarily the frame, in certain applications, bay windows etc, it may be impossible to fit vertical blinds without leaving small gaps between individual blinds. At certain angles, and depending on the exact shape of the bay, it may be possible to see through these gaps. An alternative solution is to use a curved headrail although this is an extra cost

Normal operation is via chord and chain. The chord is used to draw the blind and the chain to rotate the vanes to open and close the blind.

As an alternative, on selected headrail systems, we can supply wand control where a single wand is used to draw, open and close the blind.   This means no unsightly and potentially dangerous chord and chain hanging from the blind.

It is normal to fit brackets directly to the window frame using hardware approved by the Window and Conservatory Manufacturers Association.

Vertical blinds are intended to hang freely approximately 10mm above the window sill at the shortest measured gap.

The standard vane width is 3.5" ( 89mm. ), however if specifically requested we can provide most fabrics in 5" (127mm.)

Most vertical blind fabrics are " washable " but they must be washed with great care. Due to the coating on blind materials it is important they are washed below 20 deg C.   Remove weights and chains, roll each individual vane and place in a pillow case or delicates bag. Use a minimum amount of detergent. Do not use a high speed spin cycle. While still damp, replace the weights and chains and re-hang the blinds allowing them to dry in place.

A new generation of vertical blinds is now available, made from the same UV stabilized PVC used in window frames. These are termed " Rigid PVC ". Embossed in a wide range of patterns and colours, these offer several advantages over traditional fabric verticals.   They give excellent light control ,do not require weights and chains, they are easily unclipped from the headrail and can be wiped and replaced as needed. They are solar reflective, keeping heat out in summer and warmth in during the winter. Most rigid PVC vanes are white on the reverse allowing the use of colour in different rooms while presenting a uniform white finish to the outside.
